SCUBA diving: what is it?
71% of our planet is water.
It’s an honor, a privilege, and a luxury to be able to go underwater, explore and get to know one of the main reserves of biodiversity in the world.
What is SCUBA diving?
S.C.U.B.A. is an acronym which stands for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. This type of diving is a way to explore and enjoy the underwater world while breathing through an independent air system.
Unlike snorkeling or freediving, SCUBA diving gives you the freedom to move underwater and stay submerged for longer periods – it being very common for a dive to last around an hour.
⚙️ How it works
The diver carries a tank of compressed air connected to a regulator, which allows them to breathe normally, along with a buoyancy control device (BCD) and a pressure gauge to monitor the dive. They also use weights (for buoyancy control), a mask, fins, and a dive computer (similar to a watch, tracking depth, time, and other dive data). They may also wear a wetsuit (depending on the water temperature), and additional safety and/ or comfort accessories.
With this equipment, divers can safely descend and enjoy underwater exploration.
🐠 Why dive?
- It allows divers to discover unique ecosystems and learn about marine life.
- It is a relaxing, educational, and eco-friendly activity.
- It promotes respect for the ocean, and its conservation.
It's a lifestyle
More than a sport, diving is a way to connect with the blue planet. Divers develop a special sensitivity to the marine environment and become some of its strongest advocates.
Learn to dive
Any healthy person can learn to SCUBA dive from the age of ten (check out courses in snorkeling, freediving, and mermaid too!). Take a look and get in touch for more information about the courses available.
